To really tell the story of their wedding, I have to start at the beginning. I met up with Devon in downtown Denver a few years ago when he asked me to take his head shots. He wasn’t thrilled about doing professional photos (I think he was envisioning glamor shots of some sort), and he was even less thrilled that there were people walking around town that might see him getting his picture taken. So, we stopped at a bar for a drink first, and that’s when he told me about this girl he had recently taken out on a few dates.
Flash forward to July when I flew to Montana for Devon and Nicole’s (see lovely lady mentioned above) lake house wedding. I mean, is this really my job? Hip hip hoorah for me! Dev grew up on Flathead Lake in MT, and it was the obvious spot for these two to tie the knot. He left the planning and details to Nicci, and rightfully so. She found the most amazing house, sitting under the most glorious trees, with the most incredible view of the lake, and planned the most perfectly sweet and sentimental wedding.
The details that are the most vivid in my mind: The sense of family that permeated every aspect of that day – from Nicole’s getting ready time with her sister and mom, to the old photographs pinned to a clothesline at the ceremony, to the closeness and connection between all of the guests. The warm, welcoming nature of everyone there. The hay bales for seats and hand-crafted wood decor. The well-stocked bar. The yard games and laughter and conversation. And ultimately – the quiet, gentle fondness that is so evident between Devon & Nicole. They aren’t loud about it. But it is truly what made their wedding day so remarkable.
